Book: Hujan by Tere Liye

 Tentang persahabatan...
Tentang cinta...
Tentang melupakan...
Tentang perpisahan...
Dan tentang hujan...

What comes into your mind when you hear a name Tere Liye? Yes, he is an author of 70+ novels which some of the titles have been made into movies. I'm going to talk about one of his best-seller entitled Hujan.

I got the book as a gift from someone

On Wednesday, December 16, I received a package addressed to me from JNE courier. As I took it from the courier, soon I took a photo of it to tell the sender that the package had arrived. The sender was Adinda, my friend who now lives in Jakarta. She sent the package from Jakarta.

Several days before, Adinda said that she wanted to give me a present as I have successfully defended my thesis before. She knew that I love reading books and we spent many times going to bookstore together, so then she asked me what kind of book I want for the present. She video-called me and went to bookstore to let me choose which book to be the gift. After some talks, she decided to get Hujan by Tere Liye. A novel that I have never read before but she told me that the story is amazing.

Before receiving the book I and Adinda agreed to make a video call of unboxing the gift, so she could make sure the book delivered safely. So, after receiving the package, I called her to show the book.

Overview

First impression of the book was simple. The book didn't have much pages as the other novel titled Kau, Aku, dan Sepucuk Angpau Merah, my favourite, only 318 pages. It starts out with the first chapter, without any prologue or lists of contents. The cover was handsome enough, themed in colour of blue. Probably to resemble rains that are made of water.

The storyline revolves around Lail, a girl who lost her parents in a global scale natural disaster. She met Esok who rescued her many times. She also met Maryam who would be her best friend later. She went through difficult and happy times while she and the rest of the world tried to get up after the disaster. As the book entitled so, all the precious and important circumstances she had was in a raining day. When she and Maryam went to the adventure in rural area. When she and Esok visited their old city that being rebuild. Even when she lost her mother and father in the super volcanic eruption in a rainy condition.

Thoughts

Again, Tere Liye has come out with a great work from simple things in our daily life. This time he brought rain, the water coming from the sky that often most people having no interest in. The rain that may come anytime means that it brings all the memories again when it, umm, rains. One saying from the story:

You know why we reminisce about things when it rains? Because memories are like rain. When it comes, we can't stop it. How are we going to stop the water drops from falling from the sky? Can only wait, until it finishes by itself.

Yes, it is true that we keep remembering many things when it rains, especially if it is about love.

Never fall in love when it rains. Because when the day after tomorrow you have a broken heart, every time it rains, you will remember that painful incident.

Even so, I myself don't feel (or not yet) like rain is special or something. It's just water.

Anyway, I enjoyed reading the book. Not only because it's my favourite genre; romance but also it is an easy-to-read kind of book. Uncomplicated words are used and no confusing storyline. If you are interested in getting a copy of the book, you can buy it from Google Play Store digitally or Tere Liye's official bookstore on Shopee or Tokopedia : tokobukutereliye.
